Context

Group travel often involves complex expense tracking and settlements, leading to awkward money conversations and potential relationship strain. Existing expense-splitting apps weren't optimized for the unique needs of travelers, who need location-based tracking, currency conversion, and trip-specific organization.

Trivvy was created to address these pain points by providing a purpose-built solution that makes tracking and splitting expenses during group trips intuitive and stress-free.

Discovery

Through all of my own group trips, we identified several key needs:

• Real-time quick expense tracking that works
• Fair split options beyond just equal divisions (percentage-based, itemized, etc.)
• Trip-based organization to keep expenses separated by journey
• Simple settlement options that minimize the number of transactions needed

Features & Implementation

Trivvy was built using Loveable.dev which uses Vite and react. I connected to Supabase for the database and authentication. I used Resned to send email invitations to trips. Key features include:

• Trip creation with customizable participants and expense categories
• Multiple split methods: equal, percentage, item-by-item, or custom
• Optimized settlement calculations to minimize total transactions
• Payment linking to your pay app of choice for quick settlements
